There are whales that stay in Faxaflói bay all year round so there’s always a chance to see them. Each year continues to surprise us with the wildlife it offers. Herring and capelin being the main prey available attracting humpback whales, killer whales, white-beaked dolphins and harbour porpoises to our shores.

On board are outdoor viewing platforms, an indoor saloon with large panoramic windows and an on board café, basic bathroom facilities and a cloakroom with blanket and overalls for lend.

One of our excellent guides will commentate on the sights and views at hand through the intercom system on board and will be available to you. They happily answer any questions during the tour.

Are you coming in the winter months?

Winter whale watching gives you a whole new experience and adventure than our summer tours. The winter low lying sun is also something not to be missed, as it casts a warm glow over the white-capped mountains and to breath in the winters fresh, crisp air is just incredible.

Total duration: approx. 3 hours
Included: Guidance, use of a warm overall or blanket, free WiFi and access to Whale Exhibition/Visitor center
Bring/wear: Comfortable warm clothing, warm hat, gloves and sturdy shoes.
Pick up in Reykjavik: Starts 30-45 min before departure.
Pick up at ION Adventure hotel: Upon request
Meet on location: Ægisgarður, Reykjavik’s old harbor (city center)

Please note:
– On some occasions (winter mainly) the weather conditions and chances of seeing whales are better elsewhere, we adapt by moving our vessels to harbors situated around Reykjavik and Reykjanes peninsula and transport our passengers there free of charge from our base in the Old harbor. Going from other harbors means that we need to take a coach that can be anywhere from 20-60 minutes one way. Under these circumstances we can expect the tour to last anywhere between 3-5 hours.
