Whitewater River Rafting
Hvítá river is the birthplace of rafting in Iceland and from the first descents of Hvítá in 1983, the rafting trips have been going strong ever since.
The beautiful Hvítá (“Kvee-tau”) river carries the milky runoff of, the 2nd largest glacier in Iceland, the mighty Langjökull glacier on its twisting journey to the Atlantic ocean.
It all starts with a safety briefing at the rafting base camp where we’ll gear up and get ready for the action. After a short ride from the base camp to the river and final instructions by the river we grab an oar and jump in the boats, just few KM below the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall.
The river rafting features a balanced blend of wilderness serenity and exciting rapids in a stunning settings. The Hvítá river is a beautiful river, perfectly balanced mix of canyons and pumping waves and rapids. On the trip we raft a 7 km stretch of the river through the scenic canyons of Brúarhlöð which the powerful river has carved out over the centuries and gorges with rock formations that can best be seen from the water.
When we hit the shore again, just few hundred meters from the base camp, a sauna and showers await us.
After the rafting you can enjoy a traditional lamb BBQ – please book in advance.
The river rafting in Hvítá is a classic and convenient adventure in the heart of southern Iceland’s sightseeing highlights, ideal to combine with the your Golden Circle tour.
